Archery And Lunch At Andrea Lodge

Get your inner Robin Hood out and try a session of archery and three course lunch in the south of Mauritius at Andrea Lodge.  We had quite a bit of fun, splendid views, lovely staff and a very relaxing time.  A little more than we actually expected.

Nestled Off The Cliffs Of The South Coast

Andrea lodge is nestled off the south coast cliffs of the island, in between Souillac and St Aubin.  It comprises of a series of sea facing bungalows, a swimming pool, a restaurant and a handful of land activities such as archery, hiking and quad biking.  A car is definitely advisable to reach this little sanctuary.  The road leading to it is unsurfaced and quite a lengthy slow drive amidst sugarcane fields.  The drive is definitely an enjoyable one though.  Here are the directions to help you get there.

Robin Hood By The Sea

Once on site, the lovely staff greet you with complimentary drinks and snacks before moving on to your pre-booked activity.  Our package consisted of archery as none of us ever had a go at it.  They provide you with an instructor to help you get acquainted with the equipment and the rules the activity entails.  You get a good hour to take shots at the archery board within a clearing just off the restaurant area.  The instructor was kind enough to allow for some extra time for us to pretend being Robin Hood.  As a word of caution, try aiming for the board only as the arrows won’t be forgiving if you do make a mistake.

Surrounding Cliffs and Ocean

After archery, the instructor was kind enough to give us a little tour of the surrounding cliffs.  Andrea lodge is truly a blessing.  It has awesome panoramic views of the ocean and is bounded by lush greenery.  It faces the sea and is bordered by the mouth of a river.  One can also have a fresh little shower underneath ‘Cascade Leon’, a waterfall just a little hike away from the lodge.  Unfortunately we decided to prioritise our lunch over the waterfall shower.  It is however definitely on our bucket list for next time.

Three Course Lunch At The Restaurant

The restaurant has both indoor and terraced seating areas for its guests.  The Mauritian cuisine restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Our lunch consisted of little samossas as starters and a choice of either grilled fish or grilled chicken as main course.  The meal was topped off with a chocolate mousse as dessert.  Andrea lodge is not about fine dining but more authentic Mauritian cuisine.  While to some it may seem as a basic three course meal, we did enjoy all of it.

Swim, Chill and Relax

Andrea Lodge also offers its guests to relax and swim by the swimming pool.  The latter is perched just off the cliff and faces both the ocean and adjacent river.  While it could get windy around this area, we were lucky enough to enjoy a gentle breeze and the right amount of sun on that day.  Drinks and cocktails are available throughout the day.  The loungers and armchairs add to enjoy a good sun bath or little nap while listening to the sounds of the rattling leaves and crashing waves over the cliffs.
